Description

Review the founding and development of the early Mormon faith and some of the problems the followers had to contend with and their resulting migration west. The nature of the Mormon migration is examined and compared with those of the other non-Mormon emigrants who went west. Three diarists take the reader as the Mormons traveled along the Platte and North Platte Rivers from central Nebraska into Wyoming. A variety of old maps are shown, including the first hand-drawn map of Hastings’ route into the Great Salt Lake Valley from Fort Bridger. Illustrations by Piercy, Simons, Jackson and others are used to depict the trail encountered by the Mormons. Each of them is paired with modern photos for comparison. The last section notes the museums and sites on the trail and other available books.
